The more products or services you offer and the more competition you have in your target area, the more pages you're likely to require, accompanied by appropriate search engine optimisation.
For example, a chimney sweep operating in Blackpool might get away with a single page, but a plumber trying to get calls for fitted bathrooms, emergency plumbing, blocked drains and tiling throughout Blackpool and the Fylde Coast is unlikely to be successful.

A single page website is also useful as a holding page for an email address, as a link to an eBay shop or when you want to register a domain in advance of actually creating a full website.
In the above instance, the website would be likely to contain your logo, business name, address and contact details such as telephone numbers, along with a brief introduction to your products and services if required.
